The Shangri-La in Abu Dhabi - Life and My Lens - Travel & Tourism Bloggers

We arrived at the Shangri-La, Abu Dhabi early Thursday morning after driving 1 ½ hours from Dubai. The valet and bell-hop greeted us with open arms and escorted us through the main lobby, where we were offered Arabic coffee and dates from the friendly front office team as they checked us in in. From here we were guided to our balcony room on the 5th floor, with an amazing view of the Shiekh Zayed Grand Mosque, which is just exquisite! The room was equipped with water, fruit, a nice assortment of toiletry products, robes and slippers (which came in handy when we headed to the pool). After settling in, we took a tour of the grounds which include a beautiful beach, infinity pool (perfect temperature 😊), gazebo & garden area which all have a full frontal view of the mosque; the Shangri-La is the only hotel in the area with this view.

In addition to the picturesque views from every angle of the property, the hotel offers it’s guests a private Abra Experience (the boat ride is 20 minutes) and an evening cocktail & canapes hour from 5:30-7:30PM at the Horizon Club Lounge, both are great! We were pleasantly surprised by the cocktail & canapes, which included beer, wine & Champagne (all above average). The food was a small buffet, with a wide selection of savory and sweet snacks, which realistically you could make a meal out of, especially if you had a busy date and a late lunch.

We did not have time to eat at Hoi An (the Modern Vietnamese restaurant on the property) however, we did attend the breakfast buffet at Sofra prior to checking out, the breakfast spread was the largest and best we had ever seen; it had everything you could imagine! If you are ever in Abu Dhabi, I’d definitely recommend the Shangri-La.
