The Peninsula Bangkok - Shawn Walters Photography - Life and My Lens

We stayed at the Peninsula Bangkok for four nights in January, 2018 amongst a three month trip throughout South East Asia.

Our experience was nothing short of exceptional. The hotel is located right on the Chao Phraya River and offers a free boat shuttle service to the other side of the river. The Peninsula is the only hotel on the river where every room has a river/city view.

We stayed in a standard room on the 30th floor, it was gorgeous, you could even see sunrise from it if you were up early enough, but should you want to sleep in it had amazing black out curtains! The bathroom was spectacular having his an her sinks, a large tub, a shower with great water pressure and even a separate toilet nook!

Each time we came back to the room, they’d leave little snacks or presents which was such a nice surprise. Sometimes it was home made (fun DIY) cocktails, sometimes fresh coconuts with straws, sometimes cookies and sometimes chocolates. We were always wondering what would be left next!

The WiFi was terrific pretty much everywhere on site. Traveling through South East Asia for a few months, it was so refreshing to have a home away from home.

There were tiered pools and a hot tub, all the perfect temperature which overlooked the river and city view. The pool staff were always around to help or bring drinks, towels or fruit.

We ate at the hotel several times and everything we ordered was fantastic. Thiptara was our favorite. We got a table right on the river and didn’t want to leave! We ate and just relaxed while sipping specialty Thai cocktails.

We also ate at the River Café & Terrace for breakfast every morning and for dinner one night. It was buffet style and literally everything you could ever want to eat! We kept wondering how many staff members it must have taken to crest such an incredible spread like that.

One of our favorite things that we did was the sunset cocktail cruise the hotel offered. There is a little boat that leaves about 30 minutes prior to sunset. It goes down to Wat Arun (see the picture!) and then heads back to the hotel. Drinks and snacks are served and included in the price. It’s definitely worth it and highly recommended.

During our stay we visited the spa, which is gorgeous. We had a couples aromatherapy massage in a suite that overlooked the tiered pools and river view of the city. The spa room included a steam room, private bathroom, jacuzzi and massage tables. It is the only room that you can have any of the offered treatments. The massage therapists were excellent and the best we have had yet!

Upon our arrival we scheduled a Tuk Tuk ride with the hotel’s driver to go explore the old town, and see several of the city’s landmarks. This was a great experience, much better than taking a random Tuk Tuk where the driver tries to take you to places that they get paid for.

The hotel could not be more perfectly located. There is a laundry place where we dropped off a whole load of laundry. It was cleaned, folded and bagged like new for about $6! Also, right nearby is a food mart (a small convenience store), a pharmacy (so helpful since I had a cold while in Bangkok), and many restaurants.

Speaking of restaurants, our favorite was a little place across the river called Mazzaro (the hotel’s boat can take you). We ate here several times, it was reasonably priced and it almost felt like we were in SoHo, not Bangkok. The food was excellent.

We absolutely loved everything about the Peninsula Bangkok. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone traveling to the area! The staff were extremely polite, friendly and helpful. We felt welcomed the entire stay. :)
